For program registration, we offer a two week re-enrollment window for currently participating students, then we fill spaces in order of our waitlist. Please email kelloggfieldschool@gmail.com and provide your child’s name and age and they will be added to their respective waitlist.

Our Chickadee program uses a lottery system to fairly determine which students will be admitted each year. This random selection process ensures that every applicant has an equal chance of being chosen. The lottery is conducted each spring and is necessary only when more students apply for admission than can be admitted. To be eligible for the lottery, children must be 5 years old by the beginning of September. If you wish to participate, please email kelloggfieldschool@gmail.com with your child’s name and age (as of September 1).

Our classes encompass multiple learning disciplines. This includes outdoor environmental education, science, social studies, and physical education.

For the purpose of ILP (Individual Learning Plans) our curriculum satisfies Science and PE.

Yes, Kellogg FIELD School is committed to providing equal opportunity and will not discriminate based on race, religion, age, gender, national origin, affiliation, or economic status.

Kellogg FIELD School is a place-based, experiential learning school. Curriculum is custom developed based on session themes by instructors.

KFS emphasizes environmental literacy, focusing on developing a connection with nature and understanding ecological concepts.

We are situated on 800 acres of Alaskan land.  The campus has a farm, trails, hayfields, woods, and a natural spring that serve as the most valuable classroom.  Students walk, hike, explore, farm, sled, ski, snowshoe, observe, run, build, and play on this amazing land.

KFS only offers full-time enrollment, however attendance is not required and there are no penalties for missed days.

The majority of our instructors are graduate students at Alaska Pacific University working towards their Masters of Science in Outdoor and Environmental Education (MSOEE).  The coursework they’re enrolled in directly supports their work at KFS instructors.  All instructors must clear a background check to work at Kellogg FIELD School

The Master of Science in Outdoor and Environmental Education (MSOEE) program at Alaska Pacific University provides a rich, hands-on learning experience that blends a passion for the natural world with a dedication to teaching. Set on the picturesque Kellogg Campus, the MSOEE program prepares you for diverse interdisciplinary careers in outdoor education, offering both the theoretical foundation and practical experience needed to excel in the field.

Safety is retaught on a regular basis in an effort to prevent accidents.  Instructors monitor student activity to watch for and mitigate unsafe behavior.  Instructors carry first aid kits and follow a notification protocol in the event of concern/injury.

Kellogg FIELD School runs both a fall and spring session. Each session is 11 weeks. Class times vary by age group. All ages begin at 9:30am, however dismissal times depend on the day and the group. Camp Kellogg runs for the month of June. For 5-7 year olds, camp is from 9:00am-2:00pm M-F. For campers ages 6-17, camp run 9:00am-4:00pm M-Th and 9:00am-4:00pm F.

Parents are invited to participate in seasonal events hosted by KFS.  Additionally, there are opportunities for volunteering throughout the session.

KFS aligns its curriculum with the Matanuska Susitna Borough School District Standards as well as the Kellogg FIELD School Benchmarks.

1. Environmental Sensitivity: Learners develop sensitivity for the natural environment.

2. Nature Studies: Learners develop a foundation for ecological concepts.

3. Outdoor Pursuits: Learners make healthy lifestyle choices by participating in outdoor physical activities.

4. Farms and Food: Learners appreciate the value of nutritious food and are able to trace the progression from “farm to fork.”

5. Our Shared Alaskan Experience: Learners explore the unique cultural and geographical aspects of our local and regional community.

For more in depth details on each benchmark, visit the “About” page.

KFS sends home lesson previews each week, which details the learning objectives for the week and includes what standards and benchmarks will be highlighted. We also provide updates for upcoming events and send out a weekly newsletter with images and a detailed overview of what our students accomplished.
